What is an intensive?

Intensive Therapy is a powerful way to accelerate the healing that you would experience in a typical weekly therapy session. It provides an opportunity to devote 1 to 3 days to your healing or toward the transformation of your relationship. It requires a commitment, without distractions or excuses, and a willingness to do some hard emotional work.

For many people, traditional weekly sessions alone are too brief and infrequent to tap into the deeper, underlying issues that prevent change. Nor do they allow you to build enough momentum in session to translate insights into a change after the session is over. If you are at an impasse, the sustained, dedicated time an intensive can create the conditions to move you beyond the gridlock in your life.

Benefits of doing an intensive

✓ Get to the core issues faster so you can experience faster healing

✓ Fewer scheduling considerations/conflicts because it is concentrated into a few days versus once a week for several months

✓ Gain clarity around relational challenges that have persisted for years in just a few days

✓ Move directly into the working phase of therapy

✓ Cut your time in therapy down

how Does it work

EMDR Intensives

Prior to the EMDR Intensive, we meet for a Pre-Intensive Interview to determine the goal of our work together. We will look at what your life looks like now, your strengths, support system, stressors, ways you cope, and places where you want relief, growth, or to take a big step forward.

During the EMDR Intensive we focus on two things. 1) Make the painful stuff you are carrying hurt a lot less and 2) Help bring the good stuff closer to the surface so you can touch into its experience more. We will do this with EMDR and Somatic Therapy practices that often included guided meditations, movement practices designed to release the trauma held in the body, yoga, and breathing practices.

Depending on where you are in your healing journey, we may spend time working on your earliest relationships in life (i.e. attachment to your caregivers). For others, the focus is more on recent incidents that have occurred like discovery of a partner’s ongoing infidelity. This process can be very personal and customized to you.

After the EMDR Intensive, we meet for a Post-Intensive Interview to develop a plan to infuse the most meaningful parts of the experience into your life moving forward.

Couples Intensives

Perhaps a more in-depth couples experience is what you are looking for. Or you feel your relationship is on the brink of collapse and you need something to happen NOW. If so, consider doing a Couples Intensive. Over the course of two days, 5 hours each day, I will do a thorough assessment of your relationship struggles, identify painful and dysfunctional ways you’ve been reacting to one another, and teach new skills to move you out of your knee-jerk response and into a more collaborative way of relating.

A two-day Couples Intensive is the equivalent of 10 traditional couples therapy sessions typically scheduled over the course of 3-5 months. Progress is accelerated and amplified when therapy is offered in this concentrated, focused way.

Couples that decide to continue working with me post-intensive typically schedule 90-minute check-ins every 2-3 weeks for approximately 2-3 months.

Couples that choose not to schedule with me post-intensive will be offered suggestions to maintain their progress and support their new relational journey beyond the Couples Intensive in their follow-up session. This can be a powerful way to start your couples therapy journey and deeply beneficial when there has been long-term dissatisfaction in the relationship or sex addiction.

Please Note: Not every relationship is salvageable. But by the end of the two days, my hope is that you will have clarity about what to do next. I will do my very best to guide you toward relief and lay a path to relational health.
